Staying the Course: Watching Growth Happen Even When Life Says Otherwise

There’s a version of me who almost gave up more than once.

She closed a business she had spent years building, packed a life into boxes, and moved across the country—not knowing a single soul on the other side. She had to start over in a place that didn’t know her name yet, much less her work.

And there were moments when starting over felt exactly like what it was: starting from nothing.

If you had told that version of me where we would be today—Best of Georgia three years running, a private studio that has grown into an entire collective, and products sitting on the shelves of boutiques I once admired from the outside—I’m not sure I would have believed you.

Not because I didn’t believe in the work.

Not because I didn’t believe God had called me to it.

But because obstacles have a way of making the future feel smaller than it actually is.

Growth Doesn’t Always Look Like Growth

Here’s something I’ve learned along the way: growth doesn’t stop because obstacles appear. Sometimes, it just gets quieter.

It keeps happening in the background.

It happens in the client who walks through your door and eventually becomes a friend.

It happens in the product recipe you tweak one more time because someone mentioned a sensitivity and you know you can make it better.

It happens when you show up on the days when no one is applauding, commenting, sharing, buying, or telling you that you’re doing a good job.

It happens when you keep going simply because you know you were called to keep going.

You don’t always recognize growth while you’re living through it.

Sometimes you only see it when you finally turn around and realize just how far “keep going” carried you.

Faith in Motion

I’ve come to believe that kind of constancy is more than discipline.

It’s faith in motion.

It’s continuing to plant when you haven’t seen the harvest yet.

It’s trusting that what God is building during the waiting isn’t wasted.

It’s believing that a closed door doesn’t mean the calling disappeared.

And it’s understanding that a difficult season doesn’t mean God has forgotten what He placed in your heart.

Sometimes the blessing looks different than we imagined.

Sometimes it takes longer.

Sometimes God grows us before He grows the thing we’re asking Him to bless.

Looking back, I can see that some of the seasons I thought were setting me back were actually preparing me for what came next.

The move.

The rebuilding.

The uncertainty.

The slow days.

The mistakes.

The prayers whispered when I had absolutely no idea how everything was going to work out.

None of it was wasted.

Stay the Course

So if life has thrown something unexpected into your path right now—a setback, a move, a closed door, a season of waiting, or circumstances that make you question whether what you’re building is actually going anywhere—I want you to hear this from someone who has been there:

Stay constant.

Keep showing up for the thing you were called to build.

Keep doing the work when nobody sees it.

Keep refining.

Keep learning.

Keep serving people well.

Keep praying.

And keep trusting God with the parts you cannot control.

Your progress may not always be measurable, but that doesn’t mean growth isn’t happening.

One day, you may turn around and realize that the season you thought was standing still was actually building the foundation for everything that came next.

I know because I’ve lived it.

I once packed up a life and walked into a place where hardly anyone knew my name.

Today, I get to look around at Paisley Nail Studio and The Paisley Collective and see evidence of what can happen when faith, perseverance, purpose, and a whole lot of “just keep going” meet each other.

There is still so much more I want to build.

But today, I’m grateful enough to stop for a moment and look back.

Because sometimes remembering where God brought you from is exactly what gives you the courage to keep walking toward where He’s taking you.

Stay the course.

The growth may already be happening.

You just might not be able to see it yet.
